Sandusky homicide suspect arrested

SANDUSKY — The second suspect in a homicide Saturday in Sandusky has been arrested.Bren'Davion Durr, 20, of Sandusky, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Toledo, Sandusky police Chief John Orzech said. Durr is charged with first-degree felony aggravated murder in the Saturday shooting death of 21-year-old De'Yon Hill in an alley near Dewey Street.Members of Sandusky police received information that Durr was in the Toledo area, and they located and arrested him with assistance from the U.S. Marshals, Orzech said.Police previously arrested a 17-year-old Sandusky boy and also charged him with aggravated murder in Hill's slaying.Durr was also shot in Saturday's incident, according to a Sandusky police report. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and released.Orzech said physical evidence recovered at the crime scene and video surveillance footage led police to believe Durr was involved in the incident."We're confident he and the juvenile were involved in this," he said.Durr has been booked into the Erie County Jail and given a $1 million bond. 'He loved life'De'Yon Hill was a graduate of Perkins High School who attended BGSU Firelands, according to his obituary. Hill was also loved by many. "Everyone who knew, and anyone who merely saw De'Yon, saw a young man with a smile that could literally light up a room," his obituary states. "His hugs were hugs that made you feel as though that specific hug was 'customized' just for you. His generous soul was a soul that loved hard. He loved life and lived it to the fullest."A visitation for Hill is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Pierce Street, according to the obituary. A second visitation will be at the church Saturday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. until funeral services begin at noon. Chief's messageSandusky police Chief John Orzech posted a lengthy message on the department's Facebook page Tuesday afternoon explaining how his agency works on cases like this."For those of you that follow our Facebook page, we rarely use the platform to show suspects, discuss arrests, or discuss investigations. I have purposely chose not to do that, so that we don't have banter, hatred, spewing gossips, rumors, or spreading false information about individuals," Orzech wrote. "In this case we had to, as the suspect was fleeing to avoid prosecution. We realize that social media can be worthwhile in these cases, when necessary."Orzech said he sympathized with Hill's family, calling his slaying a "senseless tragedy." He said his agency works "tirelessly" in the first 48 hours after a crime in an effort to make an arrest as quickly as possible, if possible. "There are also family and friends of the alleged perpetrators of these types of crimes that are dealing with many emotions as well," he wrote. "No one wins in these cases, there are always negative consequences."Orzech said forensic evidence, video surveillance footage and witness statements made arrests in the case possible. "I want to personally thank the officers of all law enforcement agencies that responded, the firefighters, detectives, crime scene analysts, and any others that played a role," he wrote. "These men and women worked many hours, worked tirelessly to bring this case to closure.
