Origami show kicks off new Sandusky Cultural Center season

SANDUSKY — In its 52nd year, the Sandusky Cultural Center shows no signs of folding up anytime soon.To commemorate its longevity, global artists dedicated a new show to origami, the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures.They'll unveil the "Valley Below the Mountain" exhibit Sunday, kicking off the 2019-20 season. The show will feature all origami pieces.Artwork ranges from representational to geometric, and it's an overall collection of "masterworks that will truly amaze and impress," center board member Marsha Carrington said. "The majority of the origami in this exceptional exhibit is made from a single piece of paper and is nothing short of mind-blowing," said Carrington, who also owns Carrington Arts in downtown Sandusky. "Included are a display of mask-like faces; a case of miniature origami; a section dedicated to insects, focusing on sea creatures, serpents, multi-headed dragons, jungle and forest creatures, geometric forms incorporating circular folds; and so much more. The show will feature all origami pieces.At 2 p.m. every Sunday the exhibit is open, visitors can participate in a free workshop. They'll learn how to fold a different origami model.
