Update: Sheriff's office recovers swimmer's body in lake

Update 6 p.m.CATAWBA ISLAND — The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of a man who went missing near Catawba Island.At about 3 p.m., the 65-year-old man was reported missing in the water near Gem Beach Marina where he was swimming with family, according to the U.S. Coast Guard Station Marblehead.The sheriff's office dive team recovered the man's body at about 4:30 p.m. after the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) used side scan sonar to locate him, ODNR spokeswoman Sarah Wickham said.The man was picked up in a emergency helicopter where attempts to revive him proved unsuccessful, according to a Catawba Island police news release.Station Marblehead confirmed the man had drowned in a Facebook post and stressed the importance of wearing a life jacket.
