Update: Police investigating attempted abduction

Update Oct. 29 5 p.m.Police are searching for a man who tried to snatch a girl off the street this past weekend.Sandusky police Detective Kevin Youskievicz said his agency got security video from Mills Elementary Monday, and will review the tape to see if it captured the suspect vehicle, described as a white four-door Ford with a rusted bottom.The suspect is described as a short black man with dreadlocks, who appeared to be between 20 and 30 years old, a Sandusky police report states. He had a chipped fingernail on his pinky finger and wore dark clothing. Youskievicz said detectives want any potential witnesses to come forward. "We're looking for anyone who may have seen the vehicle circling the area, or seen anything out of place," Youskievicz said.Youskievicz said children's safety is Sandusky police's "number one priority." He suggested parents offer these safety tips to their children:• If someone you don't know approaches you, run away• Yell to attract attention to yourself and scare away a potential assailant• Don't listen to a person you don't know, even if they say a family member sent themYouskievicz said police have not had any similar incidents in the area of the alleged abduction attempt. Police also don't have a suspected motive for the incident.Anyone with information can send in tips, which can stay anonymous, to Sandusky police at 419-627-5863.Orignal postSANDUSKY — A 12-year-old girl told police an unknown man forced her into his car Saturday, but she was able to escape.The alleged incident occurred before 6:30 p.m. in the area of Pierce and Buchanan streets, according to a Sandusky police report.A mother reported her daughter missing, but later told police she returned home, the report states.The girl told officers while walking home alone a vehicle approached her and its driver, a man, allegedly asked if she wanted a ride, according to the report. She said she didn't and ran away, but the man allegedly got out of his vehicle, chased her and grabbed her arm.The man then allegedly put her inside his vehicle, but she exited through another door and escaped, the report states.The girl admitted to police she was coming back from Tiffin Avenue when she was supposed to be at the Mills School park, according to the report. Police questioned her on whether she was telling the truth, but after speaking with her further, police wrote they did not believe she was being dishonest.Officers sent out a "be on the lookout order" to other law enforcement agencies for the car, a four-door white Ford.
