Makeover ordered up for McCartney Road

SANDUSKY — They care about McCartney Road's condition.So much so that Sandusky officials began preparing for a major makeover on the street.During a recent public meeting, city commissioners approved various tasks for McCartney Road Aaron Klein, the city's engineer, offered some insight into the forthcoming work:• Project scope: "We are resurfacing the entire roadway (from Barrett Road to the west corporation limit), including stabilization of the base. We will be installing a second storm sewer that is larger and deeper than the existing one. Since existing utilities need to stay where they are, we will be installing the new sewer in the south, eastbound driving lane."• Project timeline: Actual construction work should start and end in 2019.• Project cost: Sandusky officials received a $175,000 no-interest loan from the state, payable over a 20-year period. "This will not cover the entire project. It will only cover a portion of the resurfacing of the roadway. We will be replacing quite a bit of existing storm sewer and doing some ditch dredging as well. We are still in the design phase, so we don't have an engineer's estimate yet."• Project importance: "The ranking of McCartney puts it in the 'serious' or 'very poor' range.
