Pills found in Overmyer's prison cell

UPDATE Aug. 31 12 p.m.The pills found in Overmyer's cell were confirmed to be vitamin supplements, according to a prison official.However, the manner in with the pills were kept was not in line with prison regulations, prison spokesman Grant Doepel said."In this situation, the pills were listed as contraband because because different pills were being stored in one bottle," Doepel said. He said inmates are required to keep each pill or vitamin in the original bottle it came in.SANDUSKY — Prison guards in Lima's Allen Correctional Institution said they found pills in the cell of former Sandusky County Sheriff Kyle Overmyer.Overmyer, who is serving a four-year prison term for 14 charges, admitted a bottle of pills discovered July 17 belonged to him, according to a jail conduct report obtained by the Register.Two prison guards searched Overmyer's cell and found a pill bottle containing nine tan oblong pills, two white oblong pills, two off-white round pills, one off-white oval pills and one "broken off" white pill, according to the report.Overmyer claimed the pills were "multivitamins," the report stated. But prison medical staff could not immediately identify the pills.The report stated the items were considered contraband and Overmyer violated the jail's conduct rules, but it was not clear what sort of punishment he would face for the violation.Overmyer's prison term stems from his November 2016 conviction on charges of theft, theft in office, tampering with records and obtaining dangerous drugs by deception.Originally indicted on more than 40 charges, Overmyer accepted a deal in December to plead guilty to 14 criminal charges.
