Stop today's deportation of Willard father

It might be too late already, but U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Kelly should immediately stop the deportation of Jesus Lara Lopez, and others like him.He should be granted a stay, as had been granted for years previously after his residency status was discovered and adjudicated.The rules changed when Donald Trump became president, but not for the better.We're at a loss in understanding what, if anything is gained, by a change that will split up American families.What's lost is an American creed — the piece of the nation's soul etched at the foundation of Lady Liberty. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."That's Lara Lopez, his wife and his children. They're a good family from Willard, Ohio. He's a working man who pays his taxes, pays his mortgage, takes care of his family and contributes to his community.What common good does it serve to force him to leave his family?What common good does it do to treat him like a common criminal? Lara Lopez is not a criminal.He came to the United States, to Willard, 16 years ago when he had few options. His father died when he was young and he was supporting his mother. Unskilled with no job training, or prospects for training and a job in his hometown, Lara Lopez built a life here. He's done nothing to lose what he's earned, and it accomplishes nothing to take it away from him.We call on Secretary Kelly to stop this deportation, and others like it.After church on Friday, Jesus Lara Lopez gathers three of his kids, Edwin, 11, Anuar, 9, and Elsiy, 6, to get a ride back to their Willard home.
