Charles H. Stanley

SANDUSKY — Charles H. Stanley, 95, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, July 15, 2017, surrounded by his family at the Commons of Providence after a brief illness.He was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Cleveland, to Clarence and Claire (Feiden) Stanley.Charles was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary High School. He attended two years at DeSalles College and attended Dayton University. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Prior to the war, he worked for the Trojan Powder Company.He worked at New Departure for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was an usher, Lay Minister, adult server, and served nine years on Parish Council. He operated St. Mary's Bingo fundraiser for 10 years, and served on the Toledo Diocesan Assembly for two terms. Charles was also a 24-gallon blood donor pin recipient. He was a recipient of the Golden Bell Award. He was very active in school athletics, having been a basketball scorekeeper for 30 years and parking attendant for football games, which led to his induction into the SMCC Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer, and member of the Firelands Regional Medical Center Board of Directors for 40 years. Charles was a member of the Knight's of Columbus, American Legion and the V.F.W. of Sandusky.Charles is survived by his wife of 75 years, Marian (Ringholz); a daughter, Mary Beth (Peter) Garvin of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; six sons, Charles (Liz) Stanley Jr. of Louisville, Ky., Stephen (Linda) Stanley of Cumberland, Md., Thomas Stanley of Florida, Paul (Rose) Stanley of Sandusky, Clarence "Cal" (Theresa) Stanley of Tucson, Ariz., and Craig (Kathy) Stanley of Dallas, Texas; 39 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two sons, John and Richard Stanley; one granddaughter, Jonelle Stanley; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert H. and William J. Stanley.Family and friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A prayer service will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky.
