Social media points to killer

Updated full story 9:30 p.m. LINDSEY — Two years after her brutal death, an arrest has been made in the Heather Bogle homicide case.The Sandusky County Sheriff's Office on Thursday arrested Clyde resident Daniel R. Myers, 48, and charged him with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and tampering with evidence.As of late Thursday, he remained locked up in the county jail on a no bond order. He's set to appear Friday morning in Clyde's Sandusky County Court District No. 1.Myers' arrest came at about 10:30 a.m. at a campground property in Lindsey, which is northwest of Fremont.He worked alongside Bogle, on the same shift and on the same line at the Whirlpool plant in Clyde, Sheriff Chris Hilton said.Few details are known about the arrest, including what his exact motive might have been."According to Mr. Myers, initially, he said their contacts were very few, and, in his words, 'I didn't really know the lady,'" Hilton told the Register. "We have some information that definitely says otherwise."Myers' oldest daughter, Danielle Frisch, arrived at the jail Thursday evening. She talked to Hilton and other officials about getting custody of her stepbrother and about her father's properties."I was shocked. I would not think he was capable of this," Frisch told the Register. "He told us he did not know her well,"Frisch said she did not know her father well because he was in and out of her life."But he was a good dad to Ethan," Frisch said, referring to her 11-year-old stepbrother.Searching postsBogle was a 28-year-old single mother of a young daughter when her tortured body was found April 10, 2015 — shot and beaten in the trunk of her car in a Clyde apartment complex parking lot. She was last seen the day before leaving her job at Whirlpool.The biggest break in the investigation occurred within the past month."It was the search warrants we conducted on (Bogle's) social media," Hilton said. "Through the course of getting information back from those, that led us here today."Hilton would not further elaborate on any information from the social media accounts."We are trying to develop a motive," Hilton said. "I still believe it was something done with a lot of personal emotion."The search warrants led investigators to Emerald Estates in Clyde on May 26, when they searched trailers owned by Myers and collected more evidence.Solving Bogle's cold case was among the top priorities for Hilton when he assumed office in January. He effectively fulfilled a campaign promise he made to county voters during his 2016 election campaign.Hilton wouldn't say why his predecessor, former Sheriff Kyle Overmyer, didn't take basic investigative steps, such as checking her social media accounts, to follow up on potential leads."I believe they could have," Hilton said when asked by the Register if past investigators could have found this information on Bogle's social media pages more than two years ago.The Ohio Attorney General's Office and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation have been the lead investigators on this case since June 2016, when the state took over the case from Overmyer.Overmyer and his lead investigator, former detective Sean O'Connell, failed to solve the case. O'Connell mishandled the investigation, according to some family members of Bogle and failed to properly investigate suspects.Myers' name never came up in prior investigations, Hilton said.But Myers does appear to have made a donation and posted a comment at a GoFundMe page to help Bogle's family after she was killed. A post that appears to have been made at a Go Fund Me page for the Heather Bogle family by Daniel Myers, with a $125 donation. Myers was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated murder for allegedly killing Heather Bogle. "Heather you were such an amazing person," his post reads. "Although we've only known one another for a short time I have come to appreciate our talks about our kids. I am distraught that there will be no more of your smile at work. You will always be in my thoughts. Your daughter will always be in my prayers. God Bless you little Missy!" Information provided by the sheriff's office shows Myers was charged with assault on two separate incidents in 2004, domestic violence in 2001 and others.Deputies also are reviewing the 2009 death investigation for another woman — Leigh Ann Sluder — and Myers' involvement at that time.
