Local pastor nominated for state GOP committee

FREMONT — A local pastor has been nominated to serve on the Ohio Republican Party Central Committee.Gary Click, pastor of Fremont Baptist Temple for 10 years, said he has been nominated for the seat to represent the Republican Party in the 26th District. Local Republicans in Sandusky, Wyandot, Crawford, Marion and Marrow counties approved recommending his appointment.Click has been of service to his community for many years, as pastor and last year ran as candidate for Sandusky County Commissioner. He lost in the Republican primary to Kay Reiter."I believe in being involved," Click said.Click, who describes himself as a christian conservative, likes where the Republican Party is and want's to help advance it, including by helping in election campaigns. He would also be in a position where he could help champion Sandusky County.Justin Smith, Chairman of the Sandusky County Republican party, said they choose to recommend Click from a pool of several good candidates."The committee was impressed with Gary Click's reputation and to his commitment to the Republican Party," Smith said.The state committee will vote April 21 on Click's appointment, he said."While they are not obligated to approve me it would be unusual to vote someone in who was not part of the process," Click said.Ohio's Republican Party State Central Committee is composed of 66-elected members; 1 male, 1 female, from each of Ohio's 33 State Senate Districts. The members are elected to two-year terms.Members of this committee meet quarterly in Columbus to vote on important party business and enact the bylaws that direct how the state party handles elections, endorsements, rules, contracts, and other party business. The State Central Committee members also vote to nominate and elect the leadership positions within the state party.
