Boy, 8, found walking alone around 3 a.m.; father arrested

PERKINS TWP. — A local man is in custody on a felony charge after officers learned his 8-year-old son walked, by himself, to his mother's house around 3 a.m. Monday.Tierace R. Scott, 28, contacted a dispatcher after looking for the boy for about two hours, according to a Perkins police report. He told an officer he came back from a neighbor's house to find the boy missing from a Dewitt Avenue residence. He said this was not the first time the boy had run away.As authorities were handling his call, according to the report, they learned a woman had reported a young boy walking along West Perkins Avenue, near McDonald's, without supervision. The boy told her he was walking to his mother's house on Pennsylvania Avenue, she told officers. She walked with him and then contacted police "because she thought it was strange he was out walking by himself late at night."The police report indicates that Scott has two previous convictions for child endangering. This upped his pending charge to a fourth-degree felony. One previous conviction followed a complaint that Scott had struck his son with a belt, according to a related Sandusky police report.Scott remained in custody as of Monday afternoon.
