Complete and final stop for Cedar Point's Paddlewheel Excursions
Sep 06
2011
A trademark Cedar Point attraction set sail on its final voyage Monday night.
The campy but nostalgic Paddlewheel Excursions is now officially extinct.
Space occupied by the the 47-year-old ride will go toward building the park's newest exhibit, Dinosaurs Alive!, in 2012.
But dedicated park enthusiasts received one last opportunity to ride the family attraction and say goodbye to a Cedar Point staple.
Almost 40 local residents and tourists contributed about $3,400 to be the last riders, said Ron Rude, the local chapter's executive director.

Yeah, well it was sad when they stopped selling Vernors Ginger Ale from a WOODEN KEG(can you only imagine how good THAT was?) Life sucks, but it goes on.

There's a possibility wheels are going to be added and used to tour on the beach and through the campground.

This is a very sad day. Another FAMILY ride leaving. The truely sad part is that they could have both the Paddlewheel Excursion ride and Dino Alive, all they would need to do is put a raft ride to take the people from the area by the boat ride over to the island like they do at Disney World. They could still operate the boats with no trouble. When the boat leaves, have the raft leave for the island. When the boat returns have the raft sail back acrossed. The raft could be handicap accessible just as the boats are. There is no need to take out the boats. What a true waste of a FAMILY FAVORITE. Your getting very greedy CP, get back to your roots of being a family destination and become the Amazement Park again like you once were.12:55 PM

I can't believe it lasted THIS long......
Are you referring to the Paddlewheel Excursions or the reign of the self-serving CEO?

I sure wish this ride would have stayed. It always gave kids a place to wind down and rest, possibly even taking a much needed 15 minute nap while enjoying the day. Not to mention the older crowd who needed some time off their feet. So sad. Many memories here with my dad. It was always his favorite attraction.

I agree with those below. It is VERY sad that they chose to take out a nice family oriented ride to put in something that costs extra. As a local, we get cedar point passes every year for us and the 3 kids (17,10, and 2) There is not much the 2 yr old can ride with us and the paddle boats was 1 thing that we all enjoyed. We will go see the dinosaurs probably 1 time as we love dinosaurs and was excited they were going to be there but when we saw it was 5 bucks per person extra well that just makes CP look greedy. We already pay $160.00 for our passes. We shouldnt have to lose a ride (paddle boats) Does that mean CP will lower prices? Less free rides should mean cheaper price right? You cant count the dinosaur as an attraction because it wont be included in pass prices. Very disappointed CP. Very poorly played...
