Erie County Sheriff's deputies arrested an Elyria roofer who told them she stole valuable jewelry from a Wakeman home and concealed it inside her body.

Elizabeth N. Jones, 19, is in the Erie County jail on charges that include theft, burglary, tampering with evidence and possession of drugs.

Michele Halliwell, 12000 block Ohio 113 East, told deputies Jones had been part of a crew working on her roof when she went inside to use the restroom and asked to use the bathtub to wash her legs. Shortly afterward, Halliwell noticed her husband's wedding ring and grandmother's diamond ring were missing.

Someone had also rifled through her purse and wallet.

When deputies arrived, they found Jones behind the barn with two crack cocaine pipes, a lighter, syringe and what appeared to be other makeshift drug accessories.

She appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, according to the report.

Jones admitted she was using crack cocaine and has been addicted to the drug since she was 12.

She also admitted she'd gone inside the Halliwell home looking for something to steal and had concealed the rings inside her vagina. Deputies asked a female nurse at the jail to recover the rings, which together had an estimated value of $5,000.

The rings are being held as evidence, along with a gold makeup case containing suspected crack cocaine, a container with three Vicodin tablets and one Xanax pill.

Jones remained in the Erie County jail Monday on a total bond of more than $68,000, a jail spokesman said.

Addiction is a DISEASE?   LOL!! What a hoot,

So, I guess you can get it by shaking hands, maybe kissing, someone coughing in your face.

Sorry, this secular humanist view is ridiculous, Addiction is a CHOICE.

People with cancer have a DISEASE, so does those with every other bacterial, viral and DNA malformaties. But drug abuse is NOT and addiction, its a CHOICE. Just like teen-pregnancy isn't a 'problem', it was a CHOICE and when its discovered its suddenly easy to excuse one's responsibility by saying its some type of medical condition.

ps, SwissFamily, I didn't see your post before I posted this, I agree with you 100%.

sorry "Goddess"  I don't buy into your whole DISEASE labeling... I have seen a lot of disease, and probably have so many others... Cancer, MS, Lupus, IBS  are diseases.... alcoholism and addiction is a CHOICE.. that is unless your mother was an alcoholic or and addict while you were in development and you were born with an automatic addiction because of a trash heap of a parent.. who obviously Chose to  fulfill her own needs  before think about the affects it had on her baby.

when you say that  addiction is a disease, you are only opening a door  for the excuses to come in ./. of course it is not so and so"s fault they killed, or stole, or robbed etc.. because they have a disease....lame...it works well if you can convince the courts and the bleeding heart jury that you are not responsible because of something outside of your control , like a disease, is controlling you... sorry  but it is clearly a choice, and a bad choice at that...plus there is plenty of help available to everyone with an addiction problem.. all they need is the desire to  beat it.. it shouldn't be my dime that we are forcing them to attain help on.. if you make anyone go for help.. it won't work  they need to WANT help for it to have a chance.. in my opinion

Why does it have to specify in the headline that it's a female roofer (as if that wasn't evident by the photo and, you know, the story). You can just say roofer - or should I then specify that Annie Zelm is (presumably), a female reporter at the register, as opposed to a reporter?

I am glad I decided to use a Local contractor whom I know does good work and is trustworthy, even if it cost a little more.  Just because it is cheaper does not always make it a good deal.  I will pray for this poor woman.

So so sad. Another example of how devastating the grips of addiction can be. We have to wake up and be in a position to provide alternatives (detox, residential treatment) to people who suffer from the DISEASE of ADDICTION. Of course if you commit a crime, you should do the time with a additional order to be treated for your DISEASE. STOP the catch and release mentality..catch a drug alcoholic/addict..send them to jail..they get out of jail (with no treatment).AND DO IT AGAIN!!! Sounds like insanity to me..Insanity definition = Doing the same thing expecting a different result..DUH!!

I don't think I would want the jewelery back after where it has been. Again, someone wanting (and taking) what others have worked for. She may have started drugs early, but that was her choice. At 12, you should know right from wrong.

It is a shame that some on this young has been addicted to drugs since age 12. When I was at that age my only concern was saturday morning cartoons.
