The cartoon in "Viewpoint," Dec. 21, is a direct insult to the Pope and all members of the Catholic Church. It is no secret that the news media is against religion in general and the Catholic Church in particular. The culture war is against Christianity. Some people evidently have a hard time accepting the truth.

The attraction in the Catholic Church is its fidelity to truth in all periods of time and everywhere.

An apology is in order from the Register. The sooner, the better.

Editor's note: The cartoon was in reference to a call from Pope Benedict XVI's own priest for Catholics to do penance because some priests sexually molested young boys.
