After closing for several months, Marco's Pizza on Milan Road and East Perkins Avenue reopened in a grand way Sunday with a humongous pizza party.

Crews provided about 1,000 large pizzas and other goodies — including signature staples such as CheezyBread and Cinna Squares — for free during the daylong celebration, enticing hundreds of community members to attend.

"Pizza lovers in Ohio who have missed the Marco's name in Sandusky (don't) have to wait much longer, as the newly renovated Sandusky location is determined to bring the great Marco's taste back to the community," said Pete DiFilippo, the Marco's Pizza's area representative.

Going forward, the store employing about 25 people will be open everyday.

This week, the Sandusky-based restaurant will offer several deals:

• Monday: First 100 customers will win several prizes, collectively totaling thousands of dollars. Also, at least 25 people will win free pizza for a year.

• Tuesday: Anyone mentioning the YMCA when ordering will receive a 15 percent discount. Marco's Pizza will also donate money to the local YMCA.

• Wednesday: Anyone mentioning Sandusky Schools when ordering will receive a 15 percent discount. Marco's Pizza will also donate money to Sandusky Schools.

Agreed, and highlights the spirit of gluttony that pervades this area. If they had not given away free pizza, would anybody have shown up? Quick answer: very few.
Drove past the store Sunday afternoon, & the traffic problems that this party created on Perkins Ave (where westbound traffic only has one lane) made me shake my head. I wonder how many folks came expecting to take a couple of pizzas home with them.
