Abnormal mashups of similar yet starkly different components have often times proved successful.
Take Batman and Superman fighting justice alongside one another.
Or “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan tag teaming together.
Even Taco Bell’s latest craze of combining a burrito and a quesadilla — into a cheesy carb-loaded “quesarito” — thrills taste buds.
Then there’s NASCAR and NHRA — two completely contrasting racing organizations.
But to connect drivers, sponsors, crews and fans of both sports, a respectable NASCAR team — headquartered in Sandusky — will make a pit stop in Norwalk this weekend in hopes of hyping up both organizations.
Executives from SealMaster — a division of Sandusky-based ThorWorks Industries, which oversees ThorSport Racing — plan to show off their top-fuel pavement sealer dubbed SealMonster during the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Norwalk’s Summit Motorsports Park. The vehicle’s a hybrid of a dragster and a SealMaster vehicle.
Also headquartered in Sandusky, SealMaster, the world’s leader in pavement maintenance products to contractors, has almost 60 locations nationwide.
“Instead of a top-fuel dragster, we created the SealMonster,” said Matt LaNeve, ThorWorks vice president of sales. “It’s something to draw people in at shows, races and events for people to come and see. Since the NHRA is coming near our hometown, we thought it would be good to cross-pollinate with a NASCAR team.”
SealMaster uses the vehicle, which took about a year to build, to entertain and attract existing and new pavement maintenance contractors. Executives, for instance, plan to use the vehicle to tout their jet, their Nextant 400 XTi, which is part of sponsorship program with Nextant Aerospace.
“We want to spread the word,” LaNeve said. “It’s important for SealMaster and ThorWorks to thrive as a company to support the subsidiaries underneath it. That is important to continue the success of ThorSport Racing.”
Norwalk’s just the latest stop for the SealMonster, which as previously touched down at popular tracks, such as Orlando and Las Vegas.
SealMaster also has a partnership with NHRA racer Doug Kalitta, who’s currently top among all drivers in the standings thus far in 2014.
Next to the SealMonster, there is a trailer, where fans can get autographs and receive information about SealMaster.
People can find the SealMonster vehicle this weekend in the pit area at Summit Motorsports Park.
