Hispanic population growing in Ohio

Census shows rising numbers.

Newly census estimates show Ohio added more than 32,000 Hispanic residents from 2010 to 2013.

Two-thirds of Ohio's counties have seen increases in their Hispanic populations since 2010 and declines in the number of non-Hispanic residents, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Ohio has become more diverse, as has the country.

Overall, the Hispanic population grew from about 3.1 percent of the state's total population to 3.4 percent.

People who identify as Hispanic are driving population growth in 87 of Ohio's 88 counties. The exception was Meigs County in southern Ohio, where the numbers of Hispanic and non-Hispanics both declined.

Hispanic origin is considered to be an ethnicity, so Hispanics can be of any race under Census Bureau definitions. Hispanics include those who identify as being Chicano, Cuban Mexican, Mexican American or Puerto Rican, and those from other Hispanic, Latino or Spanish backgrounds.

The growth in that segment of the population is occurring as more U.S.-born Hispanics reach adulthood and have children, said Ohio State University associate sociology professor Reanne Frank, who studies demographics and immigration.

"The national trends are clear: The growth in Hispanics is growing faster than non-Hispanics because of births, not immigration," Frank said.

The Hispanic population is growing in "virtually every corner" of the nation, said Mark Hugo Lopez, the director of Hispanic research at the Pew Research Center.

He told The (Toledo) Blade what is unique about the rise in the Hispanic population is that it is being driven by births rather the arrival of new immigrants.

A black man told me one time that his race was going to take over by over populating the country with his people. This was about 1971.

You seem to forget that almost all of the Hispanic population members are Catholics. Why don't you blame the Pope and the church? No liberals there!

Due to the results of the 2010 U.S. Census, OH lost representation in Congress because of a loss in population.

Lost representation means a loss in national political clout for the State.

Loss in political clout often translates into fewer federal dollars coming in.

Be thankful for whatever population growth OH might see from whatever source.

Most Latinos I know are bi-lingual anyway.

Have some nachos with salsa, grab a Dos Equis, put on some Tejano music and relax.

May I suggest the soundtrack from the original "Dusk 'till Dawn"?

Re: "Dusk 'till Dawn"

An excellent selection!

I have the music soundtrack.

I added "Chet's Speech" (Cheech Marin) to the ripped file:

Robert Rodriguez's "El Mexico and Mariachis" is fun too.

I wonder how many of them are on metro housing in Erie county? As you know Metro Housing has shut down due to lack of funds. They only are helping people that is disabled. The rest of the poor have to pay full price for rent. Erie County Metro Housing are RACIEST!!!!!!!!!

Raciest? You mean racist I imagine. I think they're just an ineffective organization smothered by ridiculous rules and regulations. I think actually they help mostly black people though.

Gotta ask yourself why their poor. Poor people = bad decision making.
Two poor people.... Hey let's make some kids... We can't afford them.... Who cares we'll get assistance. When I see poor people I see poor decision makers.
Maybe if you'd stopping spending 1/5 of your income at 7/11 every day on cigs beer soda junk food ECT you wouldn't be as poor.
Poor people always feel sorry for themselves as well, which allows room for excuses.

Sometimes being poor is a result of bad decision making, sometimes it's not. Some people are lazy and want to live off the system; others work their butts off for minimum wage and can't get ahead. There are extenuating circumstances. I realize that might be too big a word for you and your spelling is atrocious (as is your assumptive attitude). Oh sorry, another big word.

Higher birth rates among Mexicans. One-third of all Mexicans say they do not speak English at all. The Mexican population is growing 10 times faster than the general population. What y'll think? It is to late?

The United States is often called the melting pot. People of all cultures and races came to make the United States their home. The other day, I found some interesting information based on photos of people in many countries. The computerized images took all of the different photos in each country and created photos of what the average person in each country may look like. I found what may be images of what the average American will look like in the year 2050.
