An international peace activist who has been arrested 60 times, and who visited Afghanistan 12 times, will speak Friday in Fremont.

Kathy Kelly, 60, of Chicago, will discuss the war in Afghanistan and her experience on the ground with Afghan people living in Kabul.

“She sees war on the ground, from the view of the people who are being hurt,” said Jose Setzler, founder of the group People for Peace and Justice of Sandusky County. The group is sponsoring Kelly’s visit.

While Kelly comes from an anti-war stance, the presentation is about bringing attention to the war in Afghanistan.

“It’s for developing awareness so people can make up their own mind,” Setzler said.

Kelly has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in the past and is founder of Voices for Creative Violence. She spent her life traveling to war zones and documenting the stories of affected families.

In her recent trips to Afghanistan, she traveled as a guest of Afghan Peace Volunteers.

“She’s a really gentle, unassuming person,” Setzler said.

Kelly, who refuses to pay federal taxes supporting war, lives what she talks, Setzler said.

Tiffin-area Pax Christi and St. Ann Social Concerns Committee are also sponsoring Kelly’s visits to Fremont, Tiffin and Toledo. Donations will be accepted to support her work, and receptions will follow the events.

Wondering, Is Ms. Kelly traversing sanctuary to sanctuary with her message? As the article admits tax evasion. I have no problem with the message, 4 immediate family members have done tours and a niece inlaw just returned in good health, thanks to whomever.

Oh and the answer was nothing.....absolutely nothing.
