Do the "pesky college kids" pay property taxes , yet?

I live in another town and when I visit I see many parking lots with out of state plates and Ohio plates with county stickers other than "22".

Just stating fact.

Bherrle

So only land owners should get to vote in this country? If I remember my World History correctly, a number of revolutions occurred because of that very fact. The land owners had all the power.

fifteenthgreen

Today, all of the voters did!

starryeyes83

I was simply referring to the point proud perkins grad made about the parking lots.

In other words, Not everyone who fills those restaurant, bars and stores live and VOTE in Erie County.

Hope that's simple enough, now.

Good 2 B Me

Sad news kids. With a 340 vote difference, We need to get out there and push the NO VOTE even harder in November. Vote Against the BOE and send Another Harsh message! We will not go wuietly into the night!

fifteenthgreen

Won't need to now that the district is being dismantled and the state is no longer picking up 12.5% of the voters tax tab!

Good 2 B Me

I know! Now I am scared and will vote Yes! Oh wait...not really! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Need to find the " Vote No " signs sooner, they seemed to show up at the last minute on Campbell St.

Proud Perkins Grad,
Recruited College Kid? Where are you living Now? You haven't settled down yet?
I'll bet you have an I-Pod and I-Phone, did you or Your parents Buy it. You aren't dry behind the ears yet (Not negative, just referring to your age) so post again in afew years when you are supporting yourself.

Bherrle

And now only land owners are allowed to have opinions too.

fifteenthgreen

Not today. Just the voting public!

I suggest you call our Congressmen and suggest that they apply the Ohio Constitution that declared funding schools by property taxes illegal. We are a tourist destination, put bed taxes or earned income taxes to fund our schools. We have something here that is in demand, let those that come to our area for vacation help pay like they do in Florida. Florida has no income tax and their schools are fully funded. For us to continue to go through this insanity is beyond me, the answer is quite clear.

starryeyes83

Why not? Since they are the ones paying for it.

Well, renters do too- through increased rent payments,

Do college kids pay property taxes? Not many.

Stop whining, congratulating and playing poor me. Get up off your seats and go to Columbus. You say your State Reps are not helping. March to Columbus. You are not the first district to have this happen, and not the last. If you want schools paid for legally, constitutionally and not by the land owners then get with the other districts and go. That is the only way. You yes and no voters running your mouths need to go to stand together and take the fight south. This is not a win for anyone. There were over 5000 registered voters who did not vote. You yes and no voters who did not get them to vote failed. I have taken men and women off the battle field and delivered them to families in coffins for us to vote. And you yes and no voters cannot get over half of the registered voters to vote? Shows how proud you all are.

Apologies for posting that multiple times, I don't have an iPhone

You just don't have patience, young Skywalker....

Consent of the ...

A bully only needs to beat a kid down once to take his/her lunch money, but the kids being bullied have to defend themselves each and every time the bully comes around looking for a little extra coin.

My message to the "kids" tonight; don't back down, keep your heads up, and remember, as you've shown twice already, there is strength in numbers.

fifteenthgreen

Agree Consent. They'll be fine with the hand they've been dealt. Good life lesson!

Bherrle

Yeah, good life lesson.

Boats at houses with "Vote NO" signs. Vote NO signs in front of some very nice homes. Vote no signs at houses I've seen Cadillac's at. People openly stating that my kids are out of school, someone else helped pay for them, but it's not my responsibility to pay for yours now.

People who are openly rude & insult others. People who can't argue a point with just facts.

fifteenthgreen

2,482 people that voted NO regardless of the material items that you've listed and 2,482 people that just ended the argument.....for now!

Fromthe419

So do you propose redistribution of wealth? I don't care if my neighbor has a Cadillac, if he has a good job and worked to earn it good for him. It seems your ideas are collectivist, if you like that solution move to Cuba...how's that working out for them? I know you love Perkins School District, send them however much it would cost if the levy passed, I'm sure they will take the money and every other "yes" voter do the same. Maybe they won't have to come back to the voters in November, and stop looking at my boats, cars and No signs in my yard :)

Lil DAB

What house I live in, car I drive, food I eat is no concern of yours unless YOU contribute to MY income. Since I AM a property owner and work, I DO contribute to the schools, so I DO have a say and MY say is NO more of the 65% taxes that I already SUPPORT my community, schools, kids with! How rude of YOU, Mr Herrle, to insult and be so condescending.

Bherrle

Fromthe419 and Lil Dab,

I do not propose a redistribution of wealth. I am not trying to be insulting or condescending. And I do not begrudge people who have nice things.

What I propose is a community that comes together and takes care of itself. At the moment, I am at a loss to suggest how that is done.

takeastand

maybe St. Mary's can beat Perkins in football since PHS won't have a team this year!

10,106 registered voters minus 4624 voters that voted equals 5482 votes left out there. Could go either way as I see it.

bobshumway92

How many kids will leave the district due to the threats?

Transplant1

I did like the flier that came in the mail from St Mary's a month or so again promoting their school and targeting free activities.

Tribester

Donutshopguy you are a joke! First of all the "Folly" as you call it was a one time chance to get your federal stimulus tax money back in our local community, others like Port Clinton had the brains to take it but this community said no thanks.
There is nothing wrong with moving millage, they were not the first district to do this nor likely the last.
I just had to explain to my crying elementary age children that they will not have their art, music, computer, PE teachers this year because less than 200 people in this community chose to vote no instead of yes for the schools.
So congratulations no voters, you win your pyrrhic victory! I'm sure you are all very proud of yourself and your stand against the unconstitutional school funding system in Ohio. Maybe we can be the agent for change when the state takes over in a few years and merges us with Sandusky. I hope that happens because then your precious millage will skyrocket to the Sandusky rate which always passes due to "all those no good renters"
By the way, a levy will eventually need to pass or the district will cease to exist, and when it does it will cost 12.5 percent more FOREVER due to the end of the state contribution.
Maybe Gunner and the board should resign tomorrow and let you geniuses have a crack at running the district. A new superintendent worth anything would come to the same conclusion, this district is operationally underfunded and has major facility issues that the no voters choose to ignore. Fifteenthgreen - you think this is funny that teachers have lost their jobs and kids will have to quit sports now because of the $730 fee? I am sad for you and the others who will take glee in the children's defeat tonight. This is a sad day for Perkins Pride and this community's future. Hope you get all you wish for with your selfish no vote tonight.

bobshumway92

Sore loser.
