One of this week's notes, from Briar Middle School:

Britain Bennett, a Briar Middle School eighth-grader, was selected for the February Excellence in Service and Leadership Award from global youth service movement GenerationOn.

The national award recognizes individuals and groups, ages five to 18, who improve their local and global communities through leadership and service.

Bennett founded the Sweet Dreams program, which provides blankets, pillows and pajamas to local families in need through nonprofit agency Care and Share. She distributed flyers to advertise the collection effort throughout her neighborhood and also recruited the help of local businesses.

After three collections, the program has helped more than 1,000 families.

That's not possible. No way this happened in that old building. We need new buildings so our kids can achieve things such as this.
