Superintendent Jim Gunner listed what positions the district will have to reduce following approval of the school board in March. The pending cuts are regardless of the passage or failure of the upcoming levy and could be reduced through retirements.

Gunner is going to cut teachers and staff regardless if the levy passes. We have all this money from open enrollment. Why should we pass a levy? Now we are going to have all these open enrollment kids with less teachers and less staff. What a joke!
So be it if cuts are made regardless if the levy passes or fails. Why bother even having this meeting if cuts are going to be made if the levy passes I am not even going to waste my time watching the video and watching blow hard Gunner. My school taxes already increased $400 since last year and I vote NO. I still remember that teacher strike and how they acted like goons. Let them strike if they want to.

I was told by administration that through open enrollment all the grades were filled to capacity. If that was true, how can the district cut teachers at the elementary, middle and high school?
I guess filled doesn't really mean filled?
And by the way, who is going to pay for the mandatory preschool for all 4 year olds deemed necessary by our President?
Class sizes are full, do you have a child in the elementary level! This will affect are students!!!!
Too bad Perkins does not have a 75% rental, they could get any levy passed as it would be a slam dunk, no contest, passed.

Good job with the necessary budget cuts. Didn't hear of any cuts that would truly hinder a child from attaining their diploma. Now keep going and you should reach your end goal of a balanced budget without receiving any additional funds from the taxpayers. Good work!
Cutting teachers and activities will greatly influence student behavior, which in turn could very well hinder them from graduation. Students of all ages require much more support in the school than ever, as the support systems from students' homes becomes more weak. Teachers don't just throw reading, writing, and arithmetic at kids - they act as counselors, advocates, tutors, and role models for students who don't have that kind of support on the home front. By cutting positions, you will be throwing more work at teachers and increasing the number of students in the classroom. (Some of you seem like teachers deserve to work more, but whatever). I personally have many friends and family members who teach, and can tell you that they put their heart and soul into that career and they care very much about their students. Someone has to show our kids how to be responsible and productive members of society, and that is something that is expected out of teachers today. Would you want your surgeon to overbooked with patients before your operation? You may not see the parallels, but teachers are with these kids each and every day and have a huge impact on them. When there is no time (or energy) for teachers to work with their students individually, the children are the ones who will be hurt in the long run.

Lets see if I can explain what is going to happen. The BOE will build a new school without public vote. There will be no operating funds to support the new school.
Sounds like the same predicament the township has put itself into.

If that's what it takes to stop this new building boondoggle, then so be it.
All they have to do is abandon servicing Gunner's edifice complex and the problem will be solved.
The district needs a new building! It's cheaper to build then to repair get informed!

If you watch the video. There is two rounds of cuts.
The first round will happen no matter what happens with the levy, but the second round only happens if the levy fails and included in the second round is sports, elective classes, band, and many more extras offered to the student at PHS. How do you think that will impact students at PHS if this levy doesn't pass?
Pirate2007 - can you please explain to us why it is the community's responsibility to fund sprots and "extras?" Enough is enough! It is our responsibility to provide an education...not the extras. Sorry, but if your parents want you to have sports, band, theatre, etc., there are plenty of other ways for students to obtain those experiences without taxpayers having to fund it.
Don't forget the Perkins Property Owners are also paying for the open enrollment students extras.

We do pay to play we have activity fees and we pay for everything we are involved in get your facts right next time

Paying an activity fee is much different than funding a program. I suggest you check your facts. Are the activity fees just a supplement, or do they completely fund the programs? What do you pay....$250 or so a year? I think you'll find that those fees offset a small fraction of the total cost of those extra programs. And, quite frankly, I personally believe those "extra" programs have become a distraction to what is really important - which are academics. I'll bet most kids will spend hours and hours practicing for their favorite sport, but very little extra time on their coursework. It's one of the reasons we're falling behind the rest of the world. In other countries, sports happen at the club level and not in high school. We are funding and placing unwarranted priority on something that is not necessary to our society's future.
