The goal is to recruit levy supporters for the upcoming campaign, but anyone can join the discussion, superintendent Jim Gunner said. It will begin at 7 p.m. in room 805 of Perkins High School.
“We encourage the community to come and become informed,” Gunner said.
Perkins Schools will propose two levies for the May ballot: A five-year renewal of a 2-mill permanent improvement levy and a 10-year, 4.98-mill emergency operating levy.
If approved, the operating levy would provide funds to construct a new building for both junior high and high school students.
Gunner and school board members will present information about the levies and a recent report from the Ohio School Facilities Commission addressing health and safety concerns in the current Perkins High School building.
A short question and answer session will follow.
“We expect civil discourse,” Gunner said. “The intent isn’t to turn the evening into a pro versus con debate of the levy, but if there are questions among taxpayers we’ll certainly try to answer those to the best of our ability.”

Whoa there Perkins! Didn't you hear? Kasich has got this! Has solution to your problem and every other school district in Ohio. FOUND MONEY, NO MORE WORRIES-Guaranteed! No need to burden the taxpayers. It's all good now.
Bottom line....if you don't support the levy don't show up. They are not going to answer any tough questions or get into a debate on issues.
I think they should show up to have their voices heard. And actual suggestions on how to eventually replace buildings. Everybody is so smart on here instead of getting involved.

There is so much civil unrest with the county and the school both putting up two levies each, my fear is the who bunch will go down in flames. Do these entities communicate? This is a poor strategy for both.
It looks like a money grab by public sector bureaucrats.
I would vote yes if I lived in Perkins.
I would also prefer Sandusky and Perkins to combine into one school district but we all know that won't happen.

They can have all the meeting they want. Donutshopguy is correct. There is soooo much distrust it wont matter. They are just political salesman trying to sell themselfs. Its been said a million times, if Mr. Gunner cares so much why didnt he do what he had to do to move here like he said he would?
Property values down, criticism abounds. We have a leader who has no personal gain in this, except to help a community move forward into the future and all we do is find reason to keep going backwards. Very sad. Until we get behind this and start being supportive, our property value will continue to tank and our loss will never be recovered. Just ask someone who lives in Sandusky. If property value has no more meaning to you than that........ We need positive people.

Oh yea, one more. Why if money is so tight is the BOE paying to fly teachers here from China, paying them hourly, paying there rent on a house, repairing the house after they trashed it ( that did happen )? How many kids NEED to learn Chines in high school. So much waisted money!

It never ceases to amaze me how, every time a government entity has a problem, they throw money at it. You'd think those problems would have long since been solved if money was the answer, wouldn't you?
Government needs to do the same thing every successful business or responsible citizen needs to do: Establish a reasonable budget that's WITHIN YOUR MEANS; and then STICK to it! Government obviously prefers to stick it to the taxpayer instead...
I'm voting NO on any and ALL levies until some level of responsibility gets through the heads of those in charge. I cut back; YOU cut back. Pretty simple, isn't it? My business spends its money wisely; YOU spend your money smarter, and with more efficiency. Again, not that hard. Unfortunately, "common sense" and "goverment" seem to have just about zero overlapping areas...

Sam Adams: so you'll be voting no on "all levies" including Health Dept., Police, Township, Metroparks, EHOVE, Senior Services, and so on?
The most respected, coveted, and highly rated educational institutions in the nation, the Ivy League schools, manage to prepare the leaders of tomorrow in buildings many of which are older than this nation. Oxford and Cambridge educate world leaders in buildings that were old when this continent was discovered. I learned multivariable calculus in a building built for the 1904 World's Fair, but Gunner and company can't figure out how to teach basic algebra in a building that's younger than some of the people working in it.
Yea and I just looked up tuition for those.

I think the 9-10K Perkins spends per pupil is a great value. And are you saying that all of their buildings are old? I am sure a google search will show they have some new buildings.
Of course they have some new buildings, but they also manage to educate quite effectively in buildings far older than anything Perkins has, as do most universities. Some of Ohio's most highly respected private schools also do a darn good job in far older buildings, some while spending less per pupil than Perkins.
And yet, public school officials are constantly claiming that they can't teach effectively if the buildings are older than the students. One's perception of what is necesssary and/or possible depends largely on whether one is accountable for the resources used.
