A North Fairfield couple died and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that shut down Ohio 162 west of New London Saturday afternoon.
Rodney Williams, 69, and Betty Williams, 66, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:18 p.m. crash near Town Line Road, according to a news release from the Mansfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Rodney Williams was a front seat passenger and Betty Williams was a backseat passenger in a pickup driven by Karlie Conaway, 15, of Greenwich, when she lost control and went left of center into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Conaway’s westbound 2000 Dodge Dakota collided with a second pickup, a 1998 Ford Ranger driven by Troy Green, 40, of New London, who was driving east.
All four occupants were trapped when the New London Fire Department arrived to extricate them from the pickups.
Conaway and Green both suffered serious injuries and were taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk for treatment.
Rodney Williams, Conaway and Green were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Betty Williams was not.
No charges have been filed.
There was no indication of any alcohol or drug use that could have contributed to the cause of the crash.
Conaway is a student at South Central High School.

Ouch! That was cold... as ice!

YouDon'tSay

Thinkagain- I agree. This is the last place I would be if something like that happened. People have opinions and love to share them.

Mommy2jonny09

i looked on here to find out what happened but i refuse to read this crap and not say anything just dont want them bashing her she has a tough road ahead of her as it is

KnuckleDragger

Then expect to be hammered by people who disagree with you. It's not harassment, it is your choice to continually make comments.

RemorselessEverMore

That's what I'm talking about!

ColdAsIce

you deserved that one!

KnuckleDragger

Also how about having a little respect for those of us who have to pull these people out of the wreckage and face their families when the whole situation could have been avoided.

RemorselessEverMore

so your a firefighter. nice to know your protecting us.

KnuckleDragger

Actually no I am not, but keep guessing if you'd like. Besides, the fact that I disagree with someone has no bearing on the type of care I give someone. All would be given my full effort. Why people think that people who provide care to injured persons can't have a differing opinion without providing bad care to someone is beyond me. I can assure you that everyone I care for is given my all regardless of who they are. Having said that, I still disagree with letting a 15 yr old drive in a snowstorm and that will not change. I have seen a lifetime of tragedy due to poor decision making. If my comments make one person think before doing something like this, and saves a life, then so be it if I ruffle a few feathers. Get over it! If you don't like what I have to say, don't read it.

Like.

RemorselessEverMore

wow. u sure are defensive

It's heartbreaking but it's true. 15 or 16 doesn't matter. Obviously conditions were too dangerous for such an inexperienced driver.

LOL. Go ahead, give it a try. You might want to contact an attorney though. Harassment charges can't be filed on someone posting in a public forum, since you have a choice whether you read the comments or not. Stating an opinion is NOT harassment, and no judge is going to buy it. Thanks for playing though. You had me shaking in my shoes, I was so scared...not!!!

RemorselessEverMore

i bet you are scared. big tough guy

@Mommy2jonny09 - I'm sorry about your loss. Please remember my family - the one currently fighting for his life in Toledo due to injuries from this tragic accident. I for one only wish at this moment that a underexperienced driver was not on the road during a snow storm - do I blame her - NO - will I always remember she only had her permit - YES. I can only hope we will be living with a future of healing and not also planning a funeral because of this accident. Sorry for your loss, but your family is not the only family suffering due to this accident, but I so wish Troy had not crossed paths with Karlie no matter what her age or experience.

KnuckleDragger

Nobody feel they deserved to die. I for one, was just pointing out a lapse in judgement in order to get people to think before doing something like this. Of course they didn't deserve to die, we are all human and make mistakes. However, if one person learns from this, and it saves them, then Rod and Betty didn't die in vain. Understand?

steelersfan71

WOW some people just suck! I know this family and they are great people. So those of you who feel the need to judge, you can all go **** your self's. This family has so much to deal with! Just know that all of us who matter, LOVE YOU ALL, and will do anything we can to ease your pain.

When a tragedy occurs, the worst thing you can do is get on here and read comments. People are entitled to say what they want but you may not like it. Attend to other things instead of reading comments. If one of my relatives were to be involved in an accident, I doubt I would jump on here to see what others had to say. I would be too busy comforting my family members anyway.

Bunch of melodramatic cr*p in here this morning. Seriously though, I will send thoughts and prayers to all involved...

deertracker

My deepest sympathy and condolencences to all involved. I am not the judge of who should have or should not have been driving. Fact remains, it was still a very unfortunate accident. The younglady was simply trying to learn something that all drivers in this area really need to know regardless of age. However, anyone who has to "pull these people from the wreckage" do so voluntarily and get paid for it. Get another job if you will but it in no way gives anyone with an ounce of decency the right to be judgemental so publicly. The same thing could've happened on a sunny day. It is also a fact that anyone has the right to voice their opinion and chances are you won't like all of them. Keep your head up and move on best you can. Ignore the noise!
