U.S. EPA head breaks promise to visit Clyde

U.S. EPA administrator Lisa Jackson has made it official: She’s not coming to Clyde to visit the families affected by the Clyde Cancer Cluster, breaking a promise she made in 2011.

In addition, EPA officials have asked the families to quit sending questions to the EPA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., and send them instead to a regional office in Chicago.

Jackson wrote a letter in October 2011 to Warren and Wendy Brown — parents of Alexa Brown, 11, who died of cancer — saying she would visit Clyde to meet with the cancer cluster families after the EPA concluded its investigation in the matter.

In an October 2011 press release, Jackson said she would come to Clyde “next year.”

As 2012 came and went, Jackson never showed up.

She announced recently she’s stepping down as the EPA’s administrator early this year. A replacement hasn’t been named.

John...I agree with what you are saying, but you will NEVER convince the RP in here of anything differnt. You might as well give up trying to. Their minds were made up in November when their candidate lost the election.

They blame Obama for everything that comes down the pike and always will. For the next four years if the sun fails to sine, somehow it will be his fault and no one will be able to tell them differently.

In all my many years, I have never seen such a group as the constituants of the RP as this last group. They have whined so consistantly I am readly to bring then cheese and crackers to give them. LOL. Serously though, do not waste time and energy on trying to change their collective mind. Its futile.

I have seen some members of late on TV trying to tell their own party members to "lighten up", 'stop whining", "we need to drastically change", "we have become the stupid party" , "we have veen known as the dumb party"...." and it needs to change". These are key people in their party. They serously want change. I applaud their efforts.

The one young man said that "the loss of the minority votes never should have gone to Obama, but we didn't think to include them. We made a huge mistake. Just like not taking into consideration the young people and their concerns". Pertty fitting with this one, itsn't it?

So let them complain and get all snide about this. When this lady is ready and knows when to come, she will. I don't believe she will break the promise either. She is a very smart lady. She knows the law a bit more than those here and in Clyde. Fear not. You are correct. Nice work.

Pete

"When this lady is ready and knows when to come, she will. I don't believe she will break the promise either."

You do know she resigned right? That she is no longer head of the EPA?

And that not only did she lie to the people of Clyde, but she conducted EPA business through secret email accounts that she was not supposed to.

And as far as blaming the clueless individual in the White House, the Left still blames Bush. So Pot+Kettle=Black

John Harville

AGAIN...read the article which starts with a headline that accuses her of lying... she promised to come to Clyde and meet with the parents WHEN THE EPA FINISHED its investigation.
Now read the history of the Cancer Cluster and the EPA and Clyde. I know these people, some are very good friends, some are neighbors. I know their grief. I know ALL those victims who were cured or died BEFORE a family like the Browns and Kellers had the profile, money and desire to address the issue. They were not concerned about the other victims until the curse made a personal statement in their lives.
And now those same 2 or 3 families have long delayed the chance to get answers and the visit from ANY director of the EPA.

wired - your rant is great! to this day the democraps continue to blame bush for all of the ills in america. yet when somethng is said about prezo we are all wrong.

maybe the fact that prezo and the democraps find nothing wrong with the gov't taking in $200 billion per month in revenue while spending $360 billion a month but many of us do. apparently, prezo and his dem buddies failed their bookkeeping classes! maybe the fact that entitlements have literally doubled from 31% to 62% in the last 50 years and prezo and his democrap buddies find nothing wrong with that but many of us do. this country can not sustain the financial course we are on but nobody on the left cares!

as far as this article goes, follow the money!

John Harville

Ah Mikel... I can always count on you here or on WTOL to divert the discussion completely away from the topic so you can attack President Obama.
1. Revenue vs Expenditures: Congress. Read the Constitution you claim to revere and unerstand.
2. 'Entitlements' have doubled... avoid specifics as always. Ignore the aging population (Baby Boomers became eligible for the SS insurance 'entitlement' they paid for 50 years) in 2008; same with Medicare which we began paying at age 15.
The 'cost' of other entitlements has to be computed differently. Ever ask why food stamps are part of the Farm Subsidy bill? 50 years (are you seeing a pattern?)ago government bought overproduction grains, milk, meat, etc. and turned it into commodities for welfare recipients. The cost was money paid to farmers. Now the cost is - money.
3. We can't sustaing an excessive military budget, either - but we always have. We're still involved in a 62-year 'war' in North Korea. But hey, those costs escalated under Republicans so they're okay.
STAY FOCUSED Asshat! This story is about DEAD CHILDREN. I realize you don't consider DEAD CHILDREN an important issue (as in Newtown), but to us THIS is a homegrown issue. Do not use our DEAD CHILDREN as one more avenue for spewing your hatred.

mikel

johnny boy, it was your compadre wired who brought prezo into this not i.

re:
#1. if you don't have it you shouldn't be spending it. do you understand? makes me wonder how many times you may have filed for ba......cy because you apparently have no problem spending more than what you make.
#2. medicare, medicaid and ss make up 44% of entitlement spending. prezo has done nothing to make these people independant but rather makes the masses slaves to his "taking care of them".
#3. just like all liberals you like to blame this on military spending. fifty years ago military spending was approximately 50% of the u.s. budget. today, military spending accounts for just 19% of the u.s. budget. so stop whining about it.

it is tragic as i have said before. again, as i have stated before, there are many issues that have become prominent today in the health world. lead paint, leaded gasoline, asbestos, poor waste facilities etc. one must remember that in "their" day these were found to safe and effective to use. today's technology has debunked that. right, wrong or indifferent those are the facts. to sit here today and point fingers for blame instead of a solution is absolutely crazy.

having a family member that died way to young has made me more compassionate for those families. however, i am a realist.

John Harville

You turned the discussion into one of entitlements, etc. and moved the focus from the EPA non-visit.
1. A personal attack hmmm? Never filed bankruptcy, never spent beyond my means. Never had more than one credit card at a time. Of course we KNOW you've never had credit cards because that would be spending what you don't have.
2. How would you suggest making 'these people' independent from the insurance they paid for? Most people on Medicaid actually are taxpayers but many only work 20-30 hours per week (since the Bush/GOP 12 years.) Medicare and SS PAID FOR THE BENEFIT! Why don't right-wingers get that?
3. Why is 1962 ("50 years ago")such a watershed date with you? 12 years in to Korean War. Two years into the JFK term with Ike's superhighways under construction. Do you go back there as a round number or just because... Were you around then?
Your early loss is unfortunate on two levels - the loss, and the idea that the loss is what makes you a bit more compassionate.

mikel

Just using a 50yr mark. Cash is king. Loans, yes. However, not 50+ times in the above income limit. Also, my assets exceed my debts. Behind a lady at the grocery store "gettin ready for the game". Using her Ohio directions card for pizzas, chips, cookies', onion rings, pop. Good use for that!

Btw, you think the 15 year old in my nephews class that just had a baby will get use of Medicaid? The cycle continues.

mikel

I do apologize for getting so far off topic.

The Big Dog's back

mikel, back then we relied solely on the manufacturer's word that things were "safe".

mikel

Is there proof on negligence?

The Big Dog's back

Is there proof? Sure!. Will it ever be released? I doubt it.

mikel

How can there be proof if they don't know what is causing the problem?

wiredmama222

mikel.....never ONCE did I mention Bush. I did not defend Obama either, other than to mention that the Republicans whine andd whine about losing in November and you have...all of you. Its getting old fast. Its OVER, guys. Find another rant, will ya!

As for this lady not coming because she resigned. So she broke her promise. OK, what do you want anyone to do? Go hunt her down and shoot her? There is little anyone can do about it. She's gone. No one really knows why she resigned. Pherhaps she is ill. You can all conjecture until snow ice falls on the Equator, but no one knows for sure. Is it nice of her...no. Did she do wrong....yes. But no one can do a darn thing about it. Perhaps, if someone was using a PART of their brain in Clyde, they could CALL the EPA and find out what happened to any testing that was done if they want to know anyting. Other than that, this is over and done. Get past it.

That's nothing like democrats and obammer blaming Bush for everything four years into obammies administration is it? Crazy people.

wiredmama222

bored reader....I didn't mention Bush at all. But it is true. You republicans have been bashing Obama since he won and even before. And yes, the democrats bashed Bush just as much. That's politics. Get over yourselves. Stop whining. The republicans lost this time. We will probably lose the next time. So what. Get over it. But with this election I have NEVER heard such whining in my entire life. It goes on and on and on like a broken record. Enough already. Its February and you RP's are still at it. Get over it. You lost, We won. It's time to work together. OK?

crazyaide

You will check on the Barnes Nursery Compost site, but this is not a priority? Wow!!!

goofus

I told you it's about covering her butt with the phony e-mail stuff.

There you go again

Who's this John Harville guy who acts like he knows everything?!?!

Pete

He showed up when the repeal of SB5 was on the ballot to praise the fleecing of Ohio taxpayers by public employee unions.

He comes back every now and then to praise his Messiah, Barry The Useless.

The Big Dog's back

Really jealous of President Obama huh?

Pete

Not in the least. I work for a living and am proud of it. Why would I want to be a drain on society like Obie has his whole life?

John Harville

No you don't. Oh, you may show up at a job site....

Pete

How long have you been a drain on society?
I earn my check. Do you?

John Harville

Never.
I've never backed up to take a paycheck or a pay envelope - in 50+ years.
And since we want to get personal... I volunteered for Vietnam. What is YOUR service record?
Drain on society...

goofus

Oh good, another Kurt!!!!!

Pete

Too young for Vietnam. And no I didn't join the military. Went straight to work out of HS.

Never been a drain on society. But if it floats your boat to think I am, that is your choice.

John Harville

'too young for Vietnam'... so you missed the 'involuntary conscription' and could go 'straight to work' after high school without wondering when the 'Greetings' letter would arrive. Thus you've never really paid a debt to society while enjoying all the benefits. Thousands of men and women 'too young for Vietnam' still volunteer for military service. Too bad.

John Harville

@ Big Dog. Pete's only jealousy apparentlyh is that he has nothing to show for his space-taking existence.
