The Sandusky River League consists of SMCC, longtime rival Fremont St. Joseph, Tiffin Calvert, Lakota, Old Fort and New Riegel. The latter two schools do not have football.
SMCC joined the SBC in the fall of 1950, and enjoyed a great deal of athletic success in a number of sports, most notably wrestling and boys basketball, where the Panthers won multiple state championships between the two sports.
However, the student population at SMCC and the other seven SBC schools grew dramatically apart in recent years. In addition to competitive balance, the safety of SMCC student-athletes also played a big role in the decision making according to SCCS Board of Directors President Charles Murray.

Wonder who will replace them in the SBC
I love the Sandusky Register
Your ignorance is disgusting. Their numbers may be down but they still competed in many sports. Maybe they haven't had the best football and wrestling teams in recent years, but they have been in the upper half of the league in many other sports such as cross country, swimming, golf, tennis, and volleyball; winning conference championships in some!
You had another moronic comment in the article about Harbor Lanes, because I seem to remember SMCC dominating Margaretta in pretty much everything in the 80's and 90's.

Nothing more persuasive than bragging about 1980's girls sports success. Do any of you guys feel like debating which school had the better Art Show in 1976? Margaretta had one heckuva choir back then, as well.
and all i said on harbor lanes is what a joke.....sorry happen to know the families personally........omg i posted my comment on a blog what will come of me once again ....... WHAT A JOKE!
Danbury is replacing them.
Not a chance
I heard this a few months ago, but Margaretta was included. It would be great if Norwalk and Bellevue would join the SBC, Sandusky could even be a possibility. And Edison won't be having any sports if their levy fails, so maybe all 3 could join. Wow! What a league. But in all reality it will be someone like Vermilion, I'm sure they would say yes without consulting.
No doubt. Let your imagination run wild and the possibilities are endless as to how good the SBC could become. Too bad that you are right and it probably won't work out that way. Wishful thinking though!
If any of the three you mentioned replaces SMCC, at least two other schools would leave the SBC.

Too bad the truth had to be deleted. I fail to see where it fell under any of the content listed above. It was only my opinion. Anyway Good Luck to the Panthers in their new league. You will be missed.

a taxpayer saying they have enough money is libel. you unions stick together dont you
Good Luck SMCC!
Well you can bet Edison's levy will fail as the state is coming to save the day according to our govenor. Poorer schools will get more money if they have 20 mils. Watch the state taxes and what agency is going to get cut. Maybe Edison can go back to the Firelands

Wow..
Too bad this story became an issue. SMCC is moving for their own good. Unfortunately people have decided to throw mud at other Schools and people. This is not about the others, it is about SMCC. Hopefully the SBC will replace them with another good school. If others leave, so be it. IT will make the conference stronger in the end!
Isn't it funny that some people know what is good for everyone else? Apparently the administration feels that this is the best move for the school. So be it. That is what they get paid to do, make tough decisions for the right reasons. And, for the record, most people that send their children there, including me, send them for reasons that are not obvious to simple minded individuals. We play other sports teams that are darn near D1. We simply cannot measure up to the numbers, let alone the pure physical size because we have a limited number of recruits to pull from. We are big in heart and will never give up, but it is time for us to not have so many teams that put us on their schedule as their Homecoming game every other year. It will be good for the kids, period. Isn't that what it is supposed to be about anyway?
"Recruits." Nice choice of words.
And that is what they were. They got "scholarships" to attend that school and play football or wrestle. Then a PC mom called them out and enrollment went down the tubes as Jude formed the OAC. That is the truth.
You know it's really truthul when the person stating it's the truth feels compelled to say "THAT IS THE TRUTH".
good luck to sandusky central catholic, we wish you the very best
why does this have to get ugly. they just dont have the numbers to support the teams. so what? big deal. wish them well and move on
Thank you!
