A Sandusky man is dead after a fire that destroyed his house trailer early New Year's Day on Sprucewood Drive on the city's east side.
John O'Reilly, 66, was found inside the front door, near the bedroom of the trailer at 10 E. Sprucewood, Sandusky firefighters said.
Erie County Coroner Dr. Brian Baxter is arranging tests to determine the exact cause of death, Ricci said.
Firefighters got the call at about 2:21 a.m. today. With two ambulances out on other calls, firefighters responded short-handed with a crew of seven. Perkins firefighters were called for mutual aid, but the call was cancelled as they were en route, Sandusky firefighters said.
Firefighters have so far determined the fire began in the living room of the trailer.
Ricci said firefighters learned from the trailer park management O'Reilly lived alone in the trailer and had lived there for several years. A spokesperson for Ohio Veterans Home said O'Reilly had lived at OVH until his discharge more than four years ago.
