LETTER: War metaphors

If President Obama would just listen to our generals, maybe, just maybe, we could win this war. Sending a few troops here and there is like pushing elevator buttons five and three to get to the eighth floor. It ain't gonna work.

Militarily it's three steps. General situation, Mission, and Plan of Action to accomplish the mission. I remember when MacArthur urged President Truman to push right through Korea all the way to the Yalu river. Had we done that there would be no North Korea and South Korea. But Truman fired him.

We need to stop pussy-footing around. Either send the troops necessary to win this war or bring them home. It's like we're cutting a cat's tail off a little at a time so as not to hurt the cat. If we are gonna cut it off, do it and get it over with. There should be no excuse to keep dragging this war on and on.
