George P. Garns, 76, Sandusky passed away early Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, in Concord Care in Sandusky following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Niles, Mich., to Letha and Charles Garns. He was a 1965 graduate of Ohio Northern University with a degree in pharmacy. He retired from Revco in 1990 after 25 years of service, then worked for many pharmacies in the surrounding area.
George was a member of Calvary Temple, Elks Lodge 285 and NRA. He was an avid reader, loved fishing and spending time with family at their cottage. He was a wonderful source of humor and loved to make people laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Schmaltz), whom he married Feb. 1, 1958; three daughters, Carrie (Justin Pugh) Garns of Houston, Christie (Gabe) Miller of Maumee, Ohio, and Cynthia (Dennis Beck) Garns of Rochester, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Sarah Rasche, Savannah Beck, Jordan Parker, Kaeden Miller and Kylie Miller; and his sister, Suzanne Dahlgren of San Francisco.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. The Rev. David Synder, pastor of Calvary Temple, will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
