(Updated 10:30 p.m.) With below-freezing temperatures, demand for gas went up Thursday and a nearby regulator station wasn't able to keep up with the demand, said Chris Kozak, a spokesman for Columbia Gas.
Workers went door-to-door to turn off gas service until repairs could be made. As of 10 p.m. Thursday, service was restored to 51 customers. Crews were still waiting to gain access to a handful of homes.
The customers live on Old State and Hillcrest roads and in Milan Manor. Columbia Gas has asked customers who are home to leave their porch lights on. This lets workers know someone is available to let them in the home to restore service.
Anyone with questions about the outage can call Columbia Gas at 1-800-344-4077.

15 degree weather and they can't handle that?
What would happen if the temp drops to zero?
Utility deregulation has overshot the mark and the remaining regulatory system is just as corrupt as the legislators who did the deregulating. As a result, utilities infrastructure is falling apart. Obsolete and inadequate gas, sewer and water pipes leak and leach lead into out drinking water. Tilting utility poles are festooned with rat's nests of cables. Nuke plants are ticking time bombs. Our economic engine could easily provide excellent utility and transportation infrastructure as well as cleaner air and water, but instead we just let greedy selfish people get fabulously wealthy by mismanaging our country for their immediate selfish benefit without regard for the future.
I don't think they like the word infrastructure in Milan for some reason?? Lets hope this problem gets straightened out, it's really sad to see anyone go without heat even the elite.
