BGSU Firelands will offer a free information session on its new pharmacy technician training program in cooperation with Boston Reed College at 6 p.m. Monday in the Cedar Point Center.

This non-credit training program is designed to prepare graduates for a career as a pharmacy technician. The curriculum includes materials to prepare graduates for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board examination.

A pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, inventory control and purchasing, as well as collecting payment and coordinating billing.

The training includes 182 hours with a 120-hour pharmacy externship. Saturday classes start Oct. 24 and end June 5. The cost for the pharmacy technician program is $2,495 and includes textbooks, course materials, externship placement and certificate of completion. Financial aid may be available.
