A three-car crash Sunday night in Vermilion Township claimed the life of a Vermilion teenager and sent three others to local hospitals, according to the Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
David Ryan Kelm, 17, a passenger in a 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, died as a result of the crash at about 10:30 p.m. at Ohio 60 and Darrow Road.
A 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Allison K. Priess, 20, of Vermilion, was northbound on Ohio 60 when it rear-ended a 2005 Honda Civic as the Civic slowed at Darrow Road. The impact pushed the Civic into the path of the Monte Carlo, which was southbound on Ohio 60.
Priess was not injured.
The driver of the Civic, Harrison S. Strickler, 19, of Vermilion, was flown from the scene to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, where he was treated and released. A passenger in the Civic, Ali M. Cunningham, 18, of Vermilion, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain. Another passenger, Rachael A. Hogue, 16, of Vermilion was not treated.
The driver of the Monte Carlo, Brittany R. Fetter, 16, of Vermilion, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain.
The crash remains under investigation, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s office, Vermilion Township Fire Department and EMS, L&M Towing, Remington Towing, North Central EMS and St. Vincent Life-Flight.
