Thumbs UP to the Port Clinton High School kids who ponied up the rest of the money needed for the city fireworks display. They join the Perkins kids and the Edison filmmaking kids -- and while we're at it, the EHOVE kids who rewired the Lyme Village mansion -- who put their talents and their hearts to good use for their community.
Thumbs DOWN to automakers pulling the plug on franchise dealerships; it was a pretty sweet deal for the automakers -- the dealership took the risks and expenses and held the bag on any unsold cars. Still and all, maybe it's a sign of the times to come where you don't hang your fortunes on one exclusive franchise. Maybe the used-car lot model of independent sales lots will gain traction as more people get away from the monolith model and really go into business for themselves.
Thumbs UP to Sheriff Dane Howard of Huron County for taking advantage of a space surplus to prop up his county's coffers a little. He's renting unused cell space in the Huron County Jail to counties running out of space to house their prisoners. We've twitted our own Erie County for exporting prisoners and spending money to house our miscreants in others' jails, but you can't fault Howard for taking advantage of an opportunity.
Thumbs UP, once again, to Kids Fest, which survived the usual Cedar Point Opening Day rain and provided family fun at Sandusky Bay Pavilion.
