Obama wins

President Barack Obama has won Ohio again, capturing the swing state after a hard-fought battle with Republican Mitt Romney.

Obama, who also won Ohio in 2008, claims the swing state's 18 electoral votes.

Both sides poured major time and resources into the battleground state that has been among the nation's most contested in recent presidential elections. It was considered pivotal for both.

No Republican has won the White House without Ohio. The last president elected despite losing Ohio was Democrat John F. Kennedy in 1960.

Ohio has been site of much of the advertising spending by the campaigns and outside supporters. It also was among the most-visited states by the campaigns.

In addition to Ohio, Obama captured battleground states Iowa and Colorado on his way to the 270 electoral votes he needed.

Obama will again be dealing with a divided Congress. Democrats maintained control of the Senate and Republicans likely will again control the House. Among the most pressing matters is the so-called fiscal cliff of tax hikes and spending cuts scheduled to hit in January. Economists have warned that if they aren't averted, the nation could face another recession.

@ meowmix HERE's the deal-- Democrats are going to have to do some major restructuring if they think they will keep the public misled for much longer (The fact that Obama, the first black president, almost lost re-election should be your first clue). The hypocrisy of your demagoguery has gone far enough, and we are just not stupid enough to keep falling for it.

() Stop treating women (and parading them around and making a spectacle of them) as if they were inferior creatures who are helpless in life without a Democrat to tell them that it is OK to fail at life because they can always just kill the "clump of cells" inside of them for any reason whatsoever. Stop pretending that Roe V. Wade wasn't over-reaching. Abortion should ONLY be allowed in cases of rape (which will, eventually, be weeded out of society), or for the PHYSICAL well-being of the mother.
In short, stop the cycle of socio-economic failure instead of enabling it. And stop insulting women by making a spectacle of them while projecting false paradigms onto them.

() Stop PRETENDING to seek equal financial benefits for homosexual couples while simultaneously insisting that their benefits depend on whether they are labeled "married." We see, clearly, that if you really wanted to give them the same financial benefits as heterosexual couples..the idea would have dawned on you, long ago, to push legislation to remove the term "marriage" from legal and contractual documents and proceedings and replace it with "domestic partnership" for all couples, heteros included (which is as simple as using the "find and replace" function in a word processor).
Individuals can call themselves "married" all they want. No need for our Gov't to get involved. Simple as that.

() Stop trying to violate the first amendment with your extremist views which claim that saying a prayer in school or a public office is somehow establishing a state religion. Stop trying to convince people that allowing someone to say "I would ask you to join me in prayer" is somehow the same as saying "You are hereby ordered to pray to my God."
Censorship is un-American, period. You can also tell that to ANY President who thinks that "too much media is hurting our Democracy," as he seats a Cyber-Security Czar who wants to ban "conspiracy theories" from the internet..and asribes, to himself, power over all forms of communication in the event of a crisis. *Cough*Obama*Cough*AllOfTheAbove

() Stop pretending that your party never started a war against it's own country (the Civil War) in order to stop the Repubs from legislating women and minorities into economic freedom (the ability to stand on their own two feet and have a voice).
You see, Women and Minorities, Homosexuals and Atheists--are all, combined, a much larger group than you Cloward-Piven strategist (economy-collapsing) Democrat leaders and they are not likely to look upon you with kindness if the result of your policies (which seem like an economic coup, which you seem to have resorted to because your Civil War failed)..ends up forcing us back to the 1800s (a time when the Democrat leaders were much more pleased with things, women and minorities being suppressed, etc)..this time, due to economic collapse and the "solutions" to the hiatus that would ensue.
() Time to move into the 21st century and quit fantasizing about a return to your Pre-Civil War "glory days."

() Oh, and start distancing yourself from the extremist section of the Muslim community. Their "Death to Capitalism and the Zionists" thing (which you have in common with them) is reeeally about to bring you down.

VOTE RAND PAUL 2016 (or installed as President sooner, by the military, in the event of collapse).

@ Wald:

"Roe v. Wade"? Congress left it up to the Supreme Court.

Why didn't the 2009 Democrat Congress pass legislation making it law? The political cowards!

47 million on food stamps is OK with you?

John Harville

Roe v Wade was a specific state issue that was accepted by SUPCO because it had ramifications for all citizens in all states. Congress really can't legislate individual issues... which is why, if challenged, DOMA will not stand.

mikel

day 2 after election: dow down 120+. 2 day total: dow down almost 400 pts. yeah the markets are really happy with the newly re-elected man.

Paranoid? Nah I know history. You seriously need to watch somthing more than Obama propaganda, Its rotted your brain.

shucks

Im not impressed by your show

Doesnt matter if you are impressed, Obviously it is easy to impress you with bright lights and name calling but facts arent your strong point.

John Harville

@Marsh... if you're so big on facts, why is it you don't respond when someone counters your blow with verified facts?

Randy_Marsh

john
Like what?

Darwin's choice

Please see MY previous post to you, then talk about countering facts and "pearls"

Yea, just trust in the central planners in DC to protect your rights. LMAO!!!

Old saying: Just because you’re paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you. :)

Sorry elitists,
Can't stand your madness.

The one good thing to come out of this election and Obama winning is you can no longer blame anyone else for the mess, As the fiscal cliff comes and the debt limit is raised along with unemployment numbers I seriously doubt another democrat will win anything for some time to come afterwards. You only have yourselves to blame now.

shucks

"I seriously doubt another democrat will win anything for some time to come afterwards. You only have yourselves to blame now."
Funny, that's what they are saying about the GOP.

It takes a long time to clean up after an elephant parade. It takes even longer when the elephants are attacking you.

Things are about to get worse, You cannot blame Bush. Have fun.

shucks

marsh

And you really think that things would go better under Romney?
Fantastic.
The whole world is in trouble. You cannot blame Obama. You have fun too.

Wald

Any non-biased economist worth his salt will tell you that to clean up the mess left by Bush will take at least ten years. Of course, we live in a point-and-click generation where people think it should have taken only two years.

Randy_Marsh

Wald
Been 4 years, Get a clue. We are not any better we are in deeper. How long will it take to clean up Obama's mess?

OSUBuckeye59

@RAndy_Marsh,

The fiscal cliff is courtesy of both majority parties...the Budget Control Act of 2011 is set to kick in: the end of last year’s temporary payroll tax cuts (resulting in a 2% tax increase for workers), the end of certain tax breaks for businesses, shifts in the alternative minimum tax that would take a larger bite, the end of the tax cuts from 2001-2003, and the beginning of taxes related to the Affordable Care Act. At the same time, the spending cuts the POTUS, House & Senate agreed upon as part of the debt ceiling deal of 2011 will begin to go into effect. According to Barron's, over 1,000 government programs - including the defense budget and Medicare are in line for "deep, automatic cuts."

The GOP wants to cut spending but keep the tax cuts in place while the Democrats want a combination of tax cuts and spending curbs.

Reality is the POTUS, House and Senate are *ALL* accountable for the mess. The across-the-aisle finger pointing needs to stop now. I personally don't want to hear any more whining about "the other party". They're all at fault. They should all be locked in a room with MRE's for food until they reach a compromise: the President, the House and the Senate.

Randy_Marsh

@OSU
Yes it is because of both partys, They couldnt come to a agreement after Obama said, And i quote "Both under our estimates and under the CBO estimates, both the most conservative estimates out there, we drive down the deficit over the first five years of our budget," Obama said. "The deficit is cut in half. And folks aren't disputing that." http://www.politifact.com/truth-...
After a complete lie and the debt limit raised we are now faced with a fiscal cliff. Guess who has not allowed the senate to see a budget? Yeah old harry ried, Guess its someone elses fault huh? The dems had the ball for 4 years in congress and they havent even looked at one since, Whos fault is it again? Obama,Obama, Obama, Obama isnt that what you folks like to chant?

@ 4shizzle:

You're confused; the "elitists" are those in power who think they know better about how to live you're life than you do.

I for one am the exact opposite.

shucks

Really? wasn't Romney one of those? wasn't he your champion?

And you are the exact opposite? Really? After all you've said ,it seems like you know better about everything.

@ 4shizzle:

Hey, if you want to live in a country with centralized planning - go for it.

Just don't force me into joining in your suicide march.

John Harville

@Contango. Why do you decline to respond to factual refutations of your (29% of Ohio millionaires) blather without namecalling or totally switching subjects. You just prefer to make this forum a whack-a-Dem game.

Contango

@ John Harville:

The percentage of OH millionaires seems to be your concern.

Some like former Dem. Sen Metzenbaum took off for FL in order to escape OH's income and estate taxes.

Again: Don't only the rich vote for Repubs?

John Harville

Mikel... keep spinnin' dude. The market dropped further because McConnell and Boehner said they are holding fast to status quo and will try to push the country to the brink. It has nothing to do with the election.... but you keep right on trying to convince yourself. It's so much less productive.
Reality bites, huh?

Contango

@ John Harville:

"Congress really can't legislate individual issues..."

Nonsense. Legislation could come in the form of an Amend. to the Constitution.

John Harville

@Contango. Nonsense. An amendment to the Constitution would not be a law passed by Congress. It also needs large numbers to create and has seven years in which to be affirmed.
You think if you just throw this stuff up there it will stick, huh.
BTW... did you know Ohio is 27th in the number of millionaires? 28% of Ohio households - like yours - are millionaires or multimillionaires.

Contango

@ John Harville:

What about the attempted passage of the ERA?

Who cares about the timing?

Before Roe v. Wade individual states allowed for abortions. Don't give me the: Congress can't pass laws regarding abortion garbage.

Heck, they stick their nose in all kinds of stuff that ain't in the Constitution.
