Monroeville man faces charges, hurts woman in drunken driving crash

Erie County Sheriff deputies charged a Monroeville man after a drunken joyride caused severe injuries to a female passenger.

Phillip Schaeffer, 23, he drove himself and two others through a freshly picked soybean field sometime Saturday night, then crashed into a creek according to a related sheriff’s report.

Deputies met the three at Fisher-Titus Medical Center after the crash. Doctors at the hospital told deputies the female passenger's ear had been mangled in the wreck and she suffered other significant head injuries.

Schaeffer allowed a deputy to perform a breathalyzer test at the hospital, to which showed he was over the legal limit to drive.

Deputies charged Schaeffer with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
