Firelands Regional Medical Center
Firelands Regional Medical Center will offer American Lung Association "Freedom from Smoking" classes beginning March 10. Participants can choose to attend the 9 a.m. class or the 6 p.m. class. Firelands' Better Breathers Club will meet from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. March 12 in the Respiratory Conference Room at Firelands. Through a partnership with Firelands and the American Lung Association, the Better Breathers Club will meet through November and offer monthly programming, support and education for those in the community who struggle with respiratory difficulties, as well as their family members, friends and the general public. Firelands will be offer a breast-feeding basics education class from 9:30 am until noon March 14. The class will be hosted on the main campus. The class is designed to teach new parents the benefits of breast-feeding and how to successfully breast-feed their baby. The cost for this course is $10 (no charge with coupon). Firelands will be host Stork Express on March 14 and March 28, both from noon to 2 p.m., on the main campus. Stork Express is a free program designed to give pregnant women the opportunity to start on paperwork that is required during their hospital stay. It also provides moms-to-be and her spouses/support persons the opportunity to meet and talk with a nurse. To register for a session of Stork Express, call 419-557-7840.
Firelands will offer the Happiest Baby on the Block parenting class from 10 a.m. to noon March 18 on the south campus. The Happiest Baby program is a national curriculum and is taught by a certified instructor. The fee is $20 per class. Pre-register by calling 419-557-7840 or 800-342-1177, Ext. 7840.
During the month of March, Firelands will provide free blood pressure screenings at the following locations:
* Sandusky Mall Walk, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (except holidays) from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
* Drug Mart, Huron, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 16
* Firelands, main campus lobby, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18
* Sandusky Library, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. March 19
Firelands will offer a four-week childbirth preparation class from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March 18 and 25. Classes are hosted on the south campus. The cost for the class is $35 per couple. No one will be refused this course due to inability to pay. To register, call 419-557-7840.
Firelands staff will be on board the Erie County Care-A-Van at the Huron Plaza from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 17. While on board, staff will be providing free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. Firelands will host "Arthritis and the Oxford Knee Replacement Procedure" on March 19. Presented by Michael J. Felter, board certified orthopedic surgeon with Sandusky Orthopedics & Rheumatology and on the medical staff at Firelands, the program will discuss the causes of knee pain along with conservative and surgical treatments using the Oxford Partial Knee Replacement Implant. Firelands will host "Understanding Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder" on March 19. The program will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the south campus. Sandy Brickner, information specialist with the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities, will be the presenter. The cost is $5 per person per program.
