SANDUSKY

A 42-year-old Sandusky man told his wife he was going for a pack of smokes Sunday morning and ended up with a lot of explaining to do.

The man and a 49-year-old woman -- who was not his significant other -- were found Sunday morning naked from the waist down in a car parked at the Westgate Center,2600 block Venice Road.

The man told police he'd just met the woman at Crossroads Homeless Shelter, 1800 block Superior St., and didn't even know her name. He said they went for a ride, and "one thing led to another."

The woman told police the man picked her up at the shelter, where she is living. She said when they went for a ride, he "just exposed himself."

Police found two empty Budweiser cans in the vehicle and an open bottle of Wild Irish Rose, which contained a small amount of liquor. The man told police the cans and bottle were left over from several days before, when he and a friend drank them and went driving around.

When contacted by police, the man's wife said her husband left the home at 7:30 a.m. to get cigarettes. The man was charged with having an open container in a motor vehicle and public indecency. He was taken to the Erie County jail.

Police charged the woman with public indecency and took her back to the shelter.
