BOWLING GREEN

Several college students escaped a fire that damaged an apartment building near Bowling Green State University.

The fire broke out Monday morning in the three-story building near the northwest Ohio campus. Many students are still on their winter break and won’t be back at Bowling Green until next week.

Those who were in the apartment building at the time of the fire were able to get out safely. A resident who smelled smoke alerted firefighters to the blaze.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting through the roof. Officials say it appeared the fire started on one of the top floors.
