LETTER: Nothing but hate in the world

Are we living in a sick world or what?

It boggles my mind to see so many people filled with hate, prejudice and greed at what is supposed top be the most joyous of all holiday seasons; a season that offers hope and "Peace on Earth."

View the evening news and read the paper and you will see nothing but violence and crime, ranging from drug cartels fighting on the U.S.-Mexican borders, evidence of children being abused and molested, corruption within the entire political arena. What we see as merely pranks such as throwing shoes at the president, maligning the incoming president with vicious words and asinine adults stealing a baby Jesus from a nativity are indeed the beginning of forthcoming events, even stooping so low as to boycott a small business due to certain factions not in agreement with the owners political views. Vindictiveness abounds!

Is evil, fear and materialism about to become a mainstay in an increasingly unrestful world?

I am in the twilight of my years and I am sure many within my generation have "seen it all," but the real fear I harbor is for the children who have yet to face a life that is sure to be full of "trials and tribulations." It can change only if decent people "stand and be counted," and a legal system that must forgo monetary rewards once and for all, side with the victims, and bring the corrupt and predators to justice.
