After Maui Sands Resort closed its doors suddenly on Thanksgiving Day, leaving guests to find other accommodations, its competitors were ready with open arms. At least 10 families who already had reservations flocked to Kalahari, while others were granted special discounts at Great Wolf Lodge and the Rain waterpark.

Even with Maui’s closure, it’s clear there is no shortage of waterparks in Sandusky. Though the Hawaiian-themed resort had a clear trail of problems preceding its downfall, some have questioned whether it was just “one resort too many” for an area already saturated with water attractions.
