Sandusky Now! was formed to be a positive, vocal proponent for change in the city. We live here. Many of us have businesses within Sandusky. We have no intention of standing by and watching the great potential which Sandusky offers not be realized for everyone’s benefit. It is time for us to once again forcefully support the Marina District project.

Developer John Eymann, various city officials, City Commissioners and many private citizens have worked so hard to make the Marina District a reality. We strongly believe the Marina District, besides being a viable undertaking to make Sandusky an attractive destination in and of itself, will spur further future development within the city. It will create new jobs and economic growth, as well as establish Sandusky an as a progressive location in which to do business.

Now, we are at a crucial juncture. The determined opponents of the project have brought forth a petition to delay the project, possibly forcing yet another vote next November — this despite the fact that the entire process has already been vetted in the public arena with multiple City Commission votes plus a public vote in November, 2007 with a 52 percent approval to move ahead. With such a very public process, we wonder how the opponents can claim “the public was misled.” All was there for everyone to see and vote upon accordingly.

We call upon the City Commissioners to move this project forward. The matter has really been settled through the above-described public process. The real will of the Sandusky public can only be thwarted by the continuing efforts of the opponents to stop this most vital development, not just for the current period of time, but for this city’s very future.
