BUCYRUS

It was rough first-go for many newcomers to the Perkins girls basketball team Friday night.

At the Bucyrus Classic, the Lady Pirates fell behind early and never drew close as Carey handed Perkins a 23-point loss, 68-43.

"We just couldn't maintain any consistent high level of play at both ends of the floor," Perkins head coach Ray Neill said. "We didn't shoot the ball well inside the paint and on the defensive end we gave up way too many uncontested looks.

MONROEVILLE

A triumphant third quarter comeback from Monroeville brought it to within three points against Edison, 34-31, heading into the 4th.

Despite the Eagles effort, Edison managed to put the game out of reach with six fourth-quarter free throws from Mariah Wolfe for a 55-48 Charger win.

NORWALK

Tiffin Calvert hit 19 of 26 free throws -- including nine of 10 in overtime -- as the Lady Senecas opened the 2008-2009 girls' basketball season with a 68-61 victory Friday over St. Paul.

It wasn't tough for St. Paul coach Steve Hill to figure out what went wrong for his team.
