FREMONT

It wasn’t a good sign for St. Paul when Hopewell-Loudon scored with 27 seconds remaining in the first half.

It was a worse sign when the Chieftains took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched right down field for another touchdown.

But, it wasn’t until Andrew Brickner returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown with 4:49 remaining that they could breathe easy.

St. Paul (12-1) never seemed to have an answer for the Chieftains’ spread offense, and the result was a 49-21 loss in a Division VI regional final Friday night at Fremont’s Don Paul Stadium at Harmon Field.
