Residents have a chance to speak out about energy rate increases during a public hearing Wednesday.
The hearing before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Perkins High School auditorium, allows customers to voice their opinions on an electric security plan filed by FirstEnergy.
The plan, when combined with a separately proposed distribution rate increase by the utility, would raise residential customers' total electric bill by at least 12 percent over three years with additional cost increases yet to be determined.
