Convention roundup from wire reports
Democrats, including Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Cleveland, ripped into John McCain Tuesday as indifferent to the working class and an ally of big oil.
‘‘While families are losing sleep tonight trying to figure out some way to make their paycheck stretch through one more day, John McCain is sleeping better than ever,’’ Strickland said.
“They skillfully played our post-9/11 fears and allowed the few to profit at the expense of the many,” Kucinich said. “Every day we get the color orange, while the oil companies, the insurance companies, the speculators, the war contractors get the color green,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the GOP side...
Ken Blackwell, Ohio’s feisty and often divisive elections chief during the 2004 presidential election, will be one of five honorary vice chairs of the platform committee for next week’s GOP convention. Blackwell was the Republican gubernatorial nominee in 2006, losing to Strickland. The panel will develop the party’s statement of principles.
