More bad news just arrived.
Unemployment jumped in Erie, Ottawa and Huron counties last month, according to figures released today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
The unemployment rate in July was 7.9 percent in Erie County, 10.7 percent in Huron County and 8.2 percent in Ottawa County, all an increase over the previous month.
The county figures follow the state's announcement last week that unemployment across Ohio hit 7.2 percent in July, the highest rate in about 15 years.
Local officials are worried these numbers come at a point in the year when employment rates are usually at their peak.
