Before the settlers arrived in the early 19th century, much of Erie County was covered by a prairie that nourished a variety of animals and rare plants.
Mother Nature's "good old days" are returning to NASA Plum Brook Station, where controlled burns and seeding efforts are restoring much of the native tallgrass prairie.
Local residents can get a rare glimpse of the restoration work by taking one of two planned tours Aug. 7 and 21. The tours will be conducted by Erie MetroParks.
