SANDUSKY

They say all dogs go to heaven. If so, Sweet Pea is there.

The severely malnourished terrier mix who arrived at the Erie County Humane Society last week has been put to sleep.

She was suffering from kidney failure and weighed only 8 pounds when she was found on the side of a road by a passer-by, director Amy Porter said.

“We still want to try to find out who did this to her,” she said.

A $250 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the suspected dog abuser, she said.

A memorial service for Sweet Pea will take place Aug. 2 at the Humane Society, 1911 Superior St. A flowering dogwood tree will be planted in her memory, Porter said. The public is invited.

Porter said the dog was at least 12 years old but could be older. Anyone with information about Sweet Pea is asked to  call 419-626-6220.
