This letter is to the Rev. Thom Darden, IMA, Rufus Sanders and all Sandusky home owners that applied for Sandusky FY-2000 CHIP funds to rehabilitate their homes.

The following is my horror story with the city.

In September 2000, I applied/qualified for the Sandusky FY-2000 CHIP Grant to rehabilitate my home. In February 2001 my home was evaluated by the city's contractor. I received the maximum points for all categories evaluated. The contractor failed to document points for three categories that I qualified for. I filed a complaint with the city. In April 2001 a contractor supervisor investigated my complaint. He agreed that I was qualified for an additional 13 points. My total score was 61 points.

Subsequently I discovered the contractor only corrected four points of the 13 points I qualified for. Additionally he totally removed five points from other categories having nothing to do with my complaint. I filed a second complaint with the city. The city ignored/refused to investigate/resolve my complaints.

After hundreds of trips to City Hall and being turned away consistently, I contacted Sue Daugherty, Director of Serving Our Seniors, for help. Daugherty and I were forced to access CHIP Public Records via the Freedom of Information Act. Subsequently, with irrefutable documented proof, Daugherty and I met, or submitted this evidence to, city officials several times. It was fully proven that my CHIP 61 points placed my home seventh of the nine homes to be rehabilitated.

To date, the city has failed to correct the gross injustice.

Subject to the foregoing, I would greatly appreciate any organizations/legal assistance to help me and my family resolve this injustice with the city. All documented evidence here in cited is open for review. Anyone willing to help can contact me through Sue Daugherty at 419-624-1856.
