Global warming is harming the Great Lakes and likely will lower Lake Erie's water level by 2.7 feet during the next 100 years, scientists and environmentalists warned Wednesday.

While it's important to find ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to reduce the bad effects of global warming, climate change can't be stopped, said Don Scavia, professor of natural resources at the University of Michigan and director of Michigan Sea Grant.

Scavia said a report, which he co-wrote with two other authors, draws upon existing work on climate change.
