SANDUSKY

Finally, there's a bright side to bad wedding weather.

Alvin's Jewelers recently announced its "Pray for Rain" promotion, which promises a refund of up to $5,000 on engagement rings for couples who have at least 3/4 an inch of rain or10 inches of snow on their wedding day. The promotion is offered at 13 Alvin's Jewelers locations, including theSandusky Mall location on U.S. 250.

Chad Owens, district manager of Alvin's Jewelers at Sandusky Mall, said he's had at least 20 couples register.

"We've got the umbrellas up in every store, and we're hoping to have quite a few winners," he said.

The weather statistics are based on measurements taken at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport -- so if a couple marries on a sunny beach in Hawaii, they are still eligible for a free ring, he said. To qualify, the wedding must take place a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of two years after the ring purchase. Owens said the promotion has no established ending date. "We'd like to keep it going forever, but we'll see how it goes," he said.
